A WWS PUBLICATION ROUND UP FOR AUGUST

The summer wraps up with an inspiring list of publications and acceptances from Women Who Submit members.

Check out Issue 42 of Coffee Lovers Magazine to read Rachel Sona Reed‘s “Reconsidering the Percolator.”

Congratulations to Kate Maruyama whose short story, “Akiko,” will be reprinted in Horror Writers for Peace, a horror anthology. All proceeds from sales of the book will go to Lambda Legal Defense Fund in response to the Orlando Massacre.

Tanya Ko Hong published two poems, “Breathing Free” and “Mustard Flowers Falling” in the Berkeley Korean Literature Society.

From Désirée Zamorano‘s “A Woman of Privilege” in Akashic Books’ Mondays are Murder:

The body didn’t belong in the freezer.

It belonged in the Pasadena sunshine, skateboarding down the uneven sidewalks, cycling around McDonald Park, kicking a soccer ball around the Rose Bowl.

From Toni Ann Johnson‘s “Up That Hill” in Xavier Review:

For the first time during his fifteen-minute ride from Goshen to Monroe, Phil’s eyes have stopped scouring the road for black drivers. He hoped to see at least one, but with this view it doesn’t matter anymore. If being a lone pioneer is what it costs to enjoy this small-town beauty, he’ll pay.

Sofia Rose Smith had two poems published in The Acentos Review. From “Goodnight language, goodnight tongue:”

did she tell them that in 1960 when she chose to not use Spanish anymore?

did she think to herself well maybe it will just be easier for these children of mine to make it if I cut out part of their tongue before they’re grown?

Goodnight language, goodnight tongue

From “Umbral,” a poem by Vickie Vértiz in Voices de la Luna:

sitting in private houses, understand
the students disappeared—again—and where could they
have gone?
