Saturday, June 10th from 11am-3pm, Women Who Submit will host a public orientation and submission party at Art Share LA in the Arts District with free parking for attendees. Every other month, WWS hosts a public orientation and submission party for women and nonbinary writers in order to welcome new members to join our organization and learn about our mission and submission strategies in a comfortable, supportive and open environment. We will also have a round table discussion on strategies for applying to residencies and workshops.
The schedule for the day:
11am-11:30am: new members introduction and WWS orientation
11:30am-12pm: round table discussion on residency and workshop application strategies
12pm-12:30pm: welcome of returning members, refreshments break, and goals check-in
12:30pm-3pm: submission party (sending submissions to literary journals and magazines in real time)
All attendees are asked to bring a laptop and submission ready work. We also encourage people to bring old literary journals and a snack to share with the group.
We are a community-based organization and believe in the power of our members’ collective resources and knowledge. Together we are stronger!
Also in June, we are celebrating the release of two poetry collections by WWS members.
On Saturday, June 3, 2017 from 2pm-4pm at Work Evolution Laboratories, join us for a celebration of Li Yun Alvarado’s poetry collection, Words or Water. The event will feature readings by Li Yun Alvarado, Jessica Ankeny, Xochitl-Julisa Bermejo, Amanda Hollander and hosted by Tisha Reichle.
This event is free and open to the public. Books will be available for sale. The event will also include an American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) membership drive and raffle benefitting the ACLU with a brief word from Connie Tcheng, president of the Union Board of the ACLU of Southern California.
On Monday, June 5, 2017 from 7pm-9pm at Stories Books and Cafe, help Lauren Eggert-Crowe celebrate the launch of her newest chapbook, Bitches of the Drought, from Sundress Publications!
Special guest readers are soon to be announced. While the echapbook is now available online, a special limited print edition will be sold at the event with all proceeds benefitting Planned Parenthood, SisterSong, and Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights.
